Herault: Come ride with me

295.00620.00

“Come ride with me” is a perfect way to get a taste for cycling in this magnificent, but relatively unknown region.

The area of Herault abounds with quiet back roads that wind through the rolling countryside filled with vineyards. Starting from our home base in the village of Caux, Bruce will ride with you and introduce you to the best routes and places to stop along the way.

The region offers varied terrain – from rolling hills to 3 to 5 mile long climbs – and all year round cycling. Winter temperatures rarely dip below 10 degrees, with plenty of sunshine making it an ideal destination if you are looking to get some winter miles in.

On your own or as a small group (2 – 4 people) Bruce will create a personalised riding experience catered to your wishes and fitness level.

We are confident you will want to come back!

Sample itinerary

The following itinerary is just an example of the multitude of routes available. We will select routes for you based on your cycling ability and interests. There is something to suit everyone in Languedoc.

Arrival and exploring historic Pezenas
We will pick you up at Beziers or Montpellier airport and transport you and your bike to Caux which will be your home base for this trip. Depending on your flight times, there may be time for a leg-warmer ride today,

Spend the evening exploring the nearby town of Pezenas. Pezenas was once the capital of ancient Languedoc and has maintained a regal character. Wander through the pedestrian only historic centre and the ancient Jewish Quarter. You will want to keep a camera handy.

Pezenas is also a local artistic hub. Pop in to the many artisan workshops and galleries; there are marked routes you can follow.

You will be spoiled for choice with an abundance of quality restaurants from local to gourmet cuisine.

Take to the hills: Reserve de Chasse Caroux Espinouse
This route is challenging as it is full of short and sharpish hill climbs through the red rocky hills which are typical of the area, but there are also many charming villages in which to take a break.

It is worth stopping for lunch and a bit of sightseeing in Lodeve. The cathedral is a particularly well preserved example of local Gothic architecture.

The route then passes along the edge of Lac du Salagou. Enjoy the more leisurely inclines and the breathtaking open vistas over this beautiful lake.

Finish back in Caux.

Distance: 110km, Climbing 2100m
(Shorter and less strenuous routes are also available)
Along the Mediteranean and heading home
This route snakes through rolling vineyards towards the Mediteranean coast. Then a relatively flat route traces the coast, passing through the quaint fishing villages of Marseillan and Bouzigues. Be sure to stop at one of the local oyster trucks or beach cafes for a taste of the local delicacy.

Much of the route follows cycling paths and you can take a leisurely pace today to enjoy the seaside views.

Distance: 95km, Climbing 925m
