Choosing the right bike for your cycling holiday

One of the first decisions you need to make when planning a cycling holiday is whether to bring your own bike or to rent a bike at your chosen location. If you ride frequently, are comfortable on your current bike, and plan to ride a similar type of terrain on your holiday, we always recommend bringing it with you. You will already be in tune with your ride and can therefore focus on enjoying cycling in your new surroundings.
However, renting a bike can be a good option for a number of reasons:
- transporting your own bike to your new location just isn’t feasible
- you will be riding terrain for which your current bike is not suited (e.g. in hillier terrain you will want a lower gear ratio)
- you simply want to try out a new model, a bucket list Pinarello Dogma for example
On our cycle tours we offer a choice of road bikes, hybrid bikes, mountain bikes and even electric bikes. Let’s break down the factors that will help you decide which model is best for you and your trip. Firstly, select a bike that is most suited to the terrain that you will be riding. Secondly, consider your cycling experience, confidence and fitness level.
Not sure what bike would be best for you?
Our touring bikes

Our touring bikes are both light and comfortable. Perfectly suited for the vineyard roads, these hybrid bikes have a comfortable flat handlebar riding position, a lightweight aluminium frame and 16 gears to help you handle the hills with ease.
All our bikes are meticulously maintained by Bruce and are supplied with a hand pump and repair kit. They can be fitted with rear paniers on request.
Hire a Brompton
Enjoy the benefits of cycling in the region without the hassle of bringing your own bike and gear with you. Hire a Brompton folding bike for a couple of hours, a full day… or as long as you want.
It’s the ideal way to explore the region at your own pace. Local vineyards and quiet villages are all within easy peddling distance and since the region is relatively flat…the riding isn’t too strenuous. Perfect for a family day out.
Just fold it and stow it
When you feel like a break, your Brompton bike will fold up to a compact size that fits easily under your cafe table. Check out the video below to see how simple it really is.
We can also provide any accessories you might need
Stylish safety helmets are available at no extra charge. Our helmets are highly adjustable to fit all adult sizes.
*All helmets are sanitised between customers and include a disposable safety liner.
Hire a bike bag to carry any items you need, as well as any purchases you might pick up along the way…such as a bottle of wine from a local vineyard, produce from the market or a baguette from the boulangerie.
We offer waterproof Ortlieb rolltop paniers for hire, which attach easily to a standard rear bike rack on road, hybrid or touring bikes.
We also offer sturdy Brompton bags which attach with a quick release clasp to the front of the Brompton folding bike and come equipped with a rain cover for the unlikely event of a rain shower.
